Welcome
CJH Wildlife Art, the home of original artwork and prints by Craig Husband.
Craig is a Secondary School Art Teacher from South Wales, UK. Following a First Class Honours Degree in Art Practice (2013), he moved away from abstract works to focus on realism through drawing, driven by his passion for wildlife. Initially starting as a way to inspire his pupils, Craig began to focus solely on the subject of wildlife in early 2015. Since then, he has shared his time between teaching full time and exploring his passion for realism in art.
His work aims to capture the essence of the subject by rendering light, reflection, shadow and texture as accurately as possible. Specialising in works on paper using coloured pencil, graphite, pastel and charcoal, Craig focuses on intricate marks to slowly build up layers of realistic detail, bringing his subjects to life. Due to this attention to detail, each piece is unique, often taking over 50 hours to complete, with some individual works spanning multiple years. Though most of his works use the forementioned materials, at times, Craig also explores other mediums such as watercolour, oils, acrylics and printmaking.
"I choose my subject matter very carefully. A piece has to inspire me, and keep me motivated over long periods of time, which is why I work on multiple artworks at once, moving between them as and when inspiration strikes! Some of my works take over 100 hours to complete, so I have to be sure that the subject is right. I also like a challenge, which means I'm always looking for a subject, background or element I haven't depicted before."
